Whole Wheat Tortillas

These are so easy to whip up and so much more satisfying than the cardboard discs you get at the supermarket!

What you will need:

  • Whole Wheat Flour, 3 cups
  • Grapeseed Oil, 1/3 cup  (any oil that is not strongly flavored will work)
  • Salt, 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • Hot Water, 1 cup and 2 Tb

What you need to do:

  1.    I have experimented with different methods of mixing this dough but with no yeast or rise, I haven't really found a difference with any method.  So what I do is add all of the ingredients to my Kitchen Aid mixer and using the paddle attachment mix it all together.  Slow at first and 3-5 minutes at an aggressive speed.
  2. The dough should have the consistency of play dough.  Take your blob and divide into 12 little blobs.
  3. Roll them into balls and let them hang out for 10-15 minutes. While they are chilling, heat a cast iron pan (works best but a non-stick pan would work too)
  4. Roll them into the best circles you can without going crazy.  None of mine are ever perfect but that is what I love about them!

  6. Put them into your dry pan and wait for bubbles. Flip wait 2 minutes and pull out.

  8. Stack them and cover with a tea towel until you devour them all.

Tip:  Once cool they store well in ziplock bags but remember they are fresh.  No preservatives means they will attract the fuzzy white stuff faster than its mold resistant supermarket counterparts.

Tip:  Also remember that if you store them, they  will do better with a quick pop in the oven or toaster oven to warm up before consuming!   Just a minute will do!
